Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and Jo Ann Thrailkill, brother of Grady Gallagher, passed away at home on Saturday, June 27 after a 13-month struggle against cancer. Services will be held Wednesday, July 1.

The magnificent six years and six days that were Pablo’s life touched many. His brave journey began when he was diagnosed in May 2008 with Wilms’ Tumor, a rare form of cancer. From the start, the family honestly and courageously documented Pablo’s fight on the PABLOg, a daily diary that, over the course of the year, has evolved into a destination for countless families facing similar difficult questions and challenges. Pablo’s life remains a beacon for hope, and has inspired an outpouring of goodwill and solace from an ever-growing community that spans the globe.

The Pablove Foundation was established shortly after Pablo was diagnosed and will continue to serve in his loving memory. The Foundation makes annual contributions to fund cancer research and treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles’ Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States. Pablove supports music and arts programs, and sponsors play rooms and activities in the soft tumor units at CHLA.

Jeff, Jo Ann and brother Grady would like to express their gratitude for the immeasurable love and support from their family and extended community. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please visit Pablove.org to make a donation.

This Wednesday (July 1), Dangerbird Records and The Pablove Foundation will hold a benefit for Pablo at The Echo in Los Angeles, with performances by Eulogies and Bad Veins. Please see details above, or visit attheecho.com.

Eulogies have been on the road with fellow Dangerbirds The Dears, which included three stops in Texas: Denton, Houston and Austin. The Dangerbird Austin HQ made it out to the Denton show as well as their stop here in our own town, so two outta three ain’t bad! Although I spent many years in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, this was my first time to attend a show at the venue Hailey’s, which is right near the Denton town square. We rolled with Drew to a great coffee shop nearby, fueled up on caffeine, and finally got to meet Murray and Natalia from The Dears.

The band headed further south to Houston while we returned to Austin, which is where they joined us on Monday. After a killer show at The Parish, everybody rested up for an early afternoon performance on the mighty fine radio station KUT. For those of you who were unable to tune in for their four song acoustic set and interview with Jay Trachtenberg, we will let you know when it is archived on the KUT website for your on-demand listening enjoyment. We’ll have some video for your from that as well.

In the meantime, enjoy a couple of photos taken during their KUT session, and also check out the band’s first video diary from the road.

Saturday morning was a bit early for Eulogies, as they cruised in to Fort Worth, TX for a radio session at KTCU. The guys were featured on The Good Show, hosted by our longtime friend Tom Urquhart. Peter & Co. performed three songs total, including “The Fight (I’ve Come To Like),” “Bad Connection” and “Day To Day.” We’ll have some video from the session, plus maybe some MP3s if we’re lucky, in the very near future. We’re also shooting video at today’s radio session here in Austin at KUT.

Here are a couple of photos from Eulogies’ morning at KTCU:

Hey everyone -

We here at dgb are experimenting with Live Streaming Video.  So tonight, we’re attempting to film The Dears/Eulogies show in Chicago - from a cell phone.

This is our first foray into Live Streaming - so if you’re interested in checking out our experiments, come on back here tonight and you will *hopefully* be able to see some of the show below.

We’ll be continuing this experiment tomorrow night (Thurs) as the Silversun Pickups are dropping by dgbhq to play their fans on XBOX Live. So hopefully - fingers crossed - you can SEE the band as they are playing you.
