After setting my iTunes to shuffle this afternoon, the song “These Are Your Friends” by Adem popped on as the clouds started to give way to some sun through our windows here at the Austin office. His debut album, Homesongs, remains a personal favorite of mine. I was first introduced to his music back in 2004 when he performed as the opener for Badly Drawn Boy in NYC. I was totally blown away, and immediately ran over to his merch table to buy a copy of his CD. Although many know him through his contributions as a member of Fridge, I’ve found his solo work to always be incredible. If you’re unfamiliar, check out the video a pick up his records, which are out in the US via Domino.

If you’re in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, or within driving distance, make a point to attend the 4th Annual UltraViolet Rock Show and Art Auction for Cystic Fibrosis. Our good friend Kirk Dixon’s four year old daughter has Cystic Fibrosis, a disease that affects the lungs and pancreas. Kirk and his wife have been putting on this event each year to help find a cure. This special evening of music and art is taking place on Saturday, May 8th at The Double Wide (3510 Commerce in Dallas). Doors will be at 8pm, with performances by El Gato, Lovie and more. Here is a more information on the event:

The UltraViolet Rock Show is a benefit with the specific goal of raising funds to support research to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. Violet’s Daddy plays bass in El Gato, and Mommy heads up Lovie. Violet was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 15 mos. old in November of 2006. Thank you to everyone who supported us and continues to join us in our fight to find a cure for CF. Stay tuned as we are in the planning stages RIGHT NOW for The UltraViolet Rock Show for CF 2010, which will be May 8th at the Double Wide in Dallas, Texas. ALL money raised through UltraViolet goes directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation where $0.90 of EVERY dollar goes back into research and development and therapies to help find a cure for CF. Help us make CF stand for “Cure Found.”

This amazing video of classic video game characters invading NYC simply made my day. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Spaced Invaders, Frogger and many others make an appearance in this incredible short film. Enjoy!

Catherine Wheel’s “Black Metallic” has been stuck in my head for days, although that is definitely not a bad thing. They do indeed rank as one of the most overlooked influential bands in this history of “alternative rock.” Take a few minutes this Friday and enjoy this shoegaze classic.
