SSPU shot the video for Panic Switch (the first single from Swoon) this week, and I stopped by for a few hours to watch the band/crew in action. James Frost is the director; he’s a super nice and super talented guy, who’s worked on lots of videos you’ve undoubtedly seen. I snapped a few (very amateur) photos which give a pretty good idea of what was going on all day, but I didn’t manage to get a good one of Chris (the shots he was in while I was there had him facing away from any place I could take a good pic). So, here’s the rest of the band - sorry chris!
If you are a regular reader of our little blog, you should know that Chip and I are reppin’ Austin this week out in Los Angeles at Dangerbird HQ. Just because we are out here though, doesn’t mean we are going to quit the tradition of the Friday jam. Since this whole shebang started out as Morrissey Fridays, and this is our first time to visit the new offices here, let’s keep it straightforward. Enjoy Morrissey’s “Suedehead.”
Believe it or not, in my spare time I am attempting the gardening thing. It’s rewarding to see the fruits of your labor, much like working with amazing bands and watching them grow. Like how I worked in that analogy?
So far I have been unsuccessful on the lavender front, but the roses in the backyard seem to be hearty. For those that love the art of gardening, or maybe just want to turn that brown thumb green, literally, check out these cute little jewelry pieces from Adorn Jewelry on where else, but Etsy.
I am tempted to not share the name of the hotel that the Dbird Austin crew is crashing at while in Los Angeles, as I sort of want to keep it as our little secret, but any hotel that offers a vinyl library IN THE ROOM is pretty siiiiiick. Check it:
The Dangerbird Austin team (all two of us) is making the trek to Los Angeles for a round of meetings and hang time with the rest of the crew. It is always important for me to have an iPod (or in this case, an iPhone) filled with music to keep me occupied on a flight. I’ll have a trusty book with me as well, which will most likely be Bit Of A Blur by Alex James, but I need to have my headphones on to block out the general flight noise.
Since I hadn’t changed out the music on my iPhone in quite some time, I raided our music library to sprucen it up a bit. I did indeed put the new Eulogies album, Here Anonymous, on there… something we can’t wait to share with you when it hits stores on April 7. After a recent trip to Waterloo Records, I replaced my lost copy of Morphine’s classic album Cure For Pain, and promptly added it to my list of flight tunes. I also picked up a copy of a local band’s debut album, an amazing group called The Calm Blue Sea. It you’re into the more bombastic beauty of early Sigur Ros, this band is something you should check out ASAP. Since I have yet to give it a spin, another record that I transfered over is the latest War Child compilation titled Heroes, which contains some cool stuff like The Kooks covering The Kinks’ “Victoria,” Yeah Yeah Yeahs covering The Ramones’ “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker,” and Hot Chip covering Joy Divison’s “Transmission.”
I was in the mood for some older tracks too, so Catherine Wheel’s Ferment, Slowdive’s Just For A Day and even some Echo & The Bunnymen found their was onto my iPhone. With a good batch of tunes and a book, I am ready to get my travel on! See you on the west coast!
