I nerded out last night and went to a presentation and book signing by Alan Aldridge. You may not know his name, but you definitely know his work. He is responsible for a lot of Penguin book covers from the 60’s, as well as album art for Elton John, The Who, and Cream, to name a few. But he is probably most well-known for his ‘The Beatles: Illustrated Lyrics’ books (which i stole from my parent’s bookshelves when I went away to college and never gave back…and now have signed). Alan stories about hanging out with Paul McCartney and Elton John, and a run-in with Salvador Dali in an airport, are seriously amazing. And, he is still doing compelling work 40 years later.
